This February 26, 1991 tank vs. tank battle took place during Operation Desert Storm on the ground portion of the Persian Gulf War. The Iraqis hoped to delay VII Cops long enough to allow their forces in Kuwait to escape. The Battle of 73 Easting, which refers to it's GPS coordinate, was part of the larger Battle of Wadi al-Batin. The main American force involved in the battle was the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR). This notable conflict was one of the few engagements during the war in which an outnumbered American force successfully faced a larger Iraqi force in a stationary defensive position.
